24-Hour Crisis Hotline: Support Whenever You Need It

If you need to escape an abusive relationship, call our hotline. We’re here for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We can provide safe transportation to our emergency shelter or connect you to other support services such as counseling and legal aid.

Having a safety plan in place is an important way to keep you and your family safe when violence escalates. Our hotline counselors can help you make a personal safety plan to help reduce the risk of getting hurt.

Some common elements include hiding a bag with money, a change of clothes, identification, medication and important documents like birth certificates, social security cards, medical records, copies of your lease, rental agreement or house deed. Other considerations include opening a separate savings account, getting a new cell phone and creating a plan for where to go when an incident occurs. Remember, leaving is often the most dangerous time. Identify someone you trust who could hold these items and an extra set of car keys for you.

Call our hotline 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 214.941.1991 and we’ll help you make a safety plan.

The Family Place Transitional Housing Program helps clients transition from our emergency shelters to stable, independent living. We provide 26 apartments at our Safe Campus in Dallas and six apartments at our facility in Irving offering survivors a secure and supportive environment as they rebuild their lives. By providing the time, resources and support necessary for survivors to plan new futures, The Family Place empowers clients and fosters lasting independence.

Through this program, clients have access to:

  • Extended-stay apartments (6 months)
  • Education and job training resources
  • Children’s education programs including early childhood education, after-school activities, mentoring and summer programs
  • Guidance in applying for other housing solutions and connections with community resources

The Family Place provides free group and individual counseling and case management in Spanish and in English for adult and child survivors of domestic violence and incest at our Collin County Counseling Center, Central Dallas Counseling Center and Southern Dallas Community Center. In group counseling settings, clients learn that they aren’t alone and benefit from peer support.

We provide counseling for children whose parents are being served in our shelters, our Faith and Liberty’s Place Family Center or our Battering Intervention and Prevention Program. We use activity-based programming to help children who have witnessed family violence change the way they look at the world so they can heal. These counseling services help children learn to stay safe, stop hurting and overcome the trauma of family violence to avoid the cycle of violence as adults.

We also provide case management, a collaborative process that helps our clients set goals and access other resources, services and care. Case managers advocate for clients and monitor their progress.

The Family Place and Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas partner to provide legal services, including helping clients get protective orders and other family law services. Eligible applicants who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault or human trafficking receive a legal interview with an attorney and legal advice and may receive brief legal services or full representation.

Services include legal support in civil issues such as:

  • Temporary custody orders
  • Divorce and support (spousal and child)
  • Custody and visitation
  • Protective orders
  • Emergency orders
  • Writs of attachment

Education and Childcare Programs
Our emergency shelters provide early childhood education for children six weeks to five years old. We also provide after-school and summer programs for school-age children and mentoring programs for teenage boys. These programs are tailored to the needs of children who have experienced domestic violence.

Counseling
We provide counseling for children whose parents are being served in our emergency shelters, transitional housing, Faith and Liberty’s Place Family Center or Battering Intervention and Prevention Program. We use activity-based programming to help children who have witnessed family violence change the way they look at the world so they can heal. These counseling services help children learn to stay safe, stop hurting and overcome the trauma of family violence to avoid the cycle of violence as adults.

Men who suffer from domestic violence are often overlooked. They are far less likely to report abuse due to societal expectations and stigma. Many fear they won’t be believed or worry that admitting to being a survivor will make them seem weak. Understanding these barriers is key to breaking the cycle and encouraging men to seek help.

Our Men’s Shelter has 14 beds for male survivors of family violence. We serve both single men and men with children. Support services include:

  • Advocacy empowering clients to navigate their journey to safety
  • Basic needs support providing food, clothing and transportation
  • Comprehensive health services with access to medical, dental, vision and mental health care
  • Onsite case management connecting clients to vital legal, housing and community resources
  • Individual and group counseling and psychoeducational groups fostering healing and resilience
  • Early childhood education, after-school and mentoring programs for children

We also offer counseling for men who are not in shelter at our Collin County Counseling Center, Central Dallas Counseling Center and Southern Dallas Community Center. In group counseling settings, clients learn that they aren’t alone and benefit from peer support.

Working with the Criminal Justice System
Battering Intervention and Prevention Program

  • Nonviolence and non-threatening behavior
  • Respect
  • Trust and support
